I’m interested in the stories that animals tell us about ourselves.

After completing Columbia University’s nonfiction writing MFA program, I went to the Philippines with a Fulbright arts grant and got a bit lost. When I came home years later, I spent the next fifteen years working in brand and content marketing and became introduced to dog rescue through fostering, adopting, and transporting. Dogs gave me a new purpose. Each one has brought an opportunity to learn about the ethics of the American and global animal shelter systems, the gaps between animal welfare laws and enforcement, and the science of animal behavior. I now live on an island in the South Puget Sound with my pack, and I’m finding my way back to writing and investigative reporting through my interest in creating a more humane world. I’ll be studying animal behavior formally through a certificate program at the University of Washington later this year.
